Copenhagen was founded between the years 1160 and 1167 by the counselor of King Valdemar called Bishop Absalon. During the years 1160 and 1167, the Isle of Slotsholmen was built to protect the city. These steps led to the foundation of the Danish capital, Copenhagen. Due to its profitable harbor facilities, the city grew extremely fast in the twelfth century. Copenhagen castle was built on the remains of the Absalons castle in the year 1417. In the year 1449, Copenhagen got its first king, King Christian and the "Royal House of Oldenborg" dynasty was founded. The first central station was built in the city in the year 1847 and at that time it served a thirty kilometers railway line. At present, Copenhagen is known for the quality of life that the people enjoy here.
Copenhagen people have shown great amount of interest in art, culture and music in the past and this has definitely made the cultural heritage extremely rich. The "Royal Danish Opera" and the "Danish National Symphony Orchestra" are the real gems that have made the culture of the city glow. The "Royal Ballet" is also an integral component of the city's culture.
