BUCHAREST

Bucharest is the major financial and industrial center of Romania and the largest metropolis of country. It is situated in south eastern region of country and has population of approximately 2.6 million. According to Romanian legends, the city was build on the banks of ''Dambovita River'' by someone named ''Bucur'' whose name means joy. In the fifteenth century, the generous court of ''Vlad Tepes'' was set up here and in 17th century, the metropolis became capital of Valahia. By the year 1862, it became the capital city of Romania.

The architecture of the city is a blend of neo classical, ''Bauhaus and Art Deco'', Communist epoch and modern. In-between the time periods of 2 world wars, Bucharest was named the ''Little Paris of the East''. Economically, it is the wealthiest in Romania and the largest transportation center of ''Eastern Europe''.

Bucharest has a wealth of magnificent museums, architectural surprises, superb orthodox churches, galleries and political legacy renders an appealing myriad of tourist sites where one can rediscover the emotions as well as events of history.
