Karnavati was the original name of Ahmedabad which was later on changed by the king Ahmed Shah who named the city after his name. Initially the city was built on the spacious planes to the eastern direction of the Sabarmati River. It was in the year 1753 that the city came under the dominance of the Mughal rulers. In the 1818, Ahmedabad went under the control of British. When the British took the control of the city railway links and the municipal committees were formed here.
