Some of
the most famous touristic attractions, besides the beaches, are: the giant
statue of Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf mountain with its cable car, the
Sambodromo, a parade avenue used during Carnival and Maracana Stadium,
one of the largest football stadiums.
An
outstanding place in Rio is the harbour which is surrounded by amazing natural
settings such as Sugarloaf Mountain, Corcovado Peak and the hills of Tijuca.
Not without a reason is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
Other
cultural landmarks include Biblioteca Nacional, one of the largest libraries
in the world, Theatro do Rio, the National Museum of Fine Arts, the
Imperial Square, Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro and the Natural
History Museum.
Still the
greatest reason to go to Rio de Janeiro is the Carnival or Carnaval from Latin
"Carnevale". This is an annual celebration in the Roman Catholic
tradition which lasts two weeks and is mostly known for it “escolas de samba”
which parade on the Sambradomo. You can see Blocos, groups of people which
dress in specila costumes with different themes, parades almost
everywhere. Keep in mind though that is very expensive to visit Rio during the
Carnival. It is a unique experience but the prices can go up to 4 times more
expensive.
