Phnom Penh 

Phnom Penh is the capital as well as one of the largest cities of Cambodia. Phnom Penh is also known as the capital of Phnom Penh Municipality. The city is one of the biggest historical, tourists, cultural, commercial and industrial center of the country. Also, Phnom Penh is well known for its French influenced architecture and traditional Khmer. It is the most populous and the wealthiest city of Cambodia and accommodates over two million population of the country.

The city is also home to the colorful Khmer culture. The "Royal Khmer Classical Dance" running its main dancing school known as "Khmer Art Academy" in the city collects the best dancers in the country. Traditional dancing is one of the cultural activities in Phnom Penh. There are presentations of traditional shadow puppetry, music and dance organized most on Saturday and Friday evenings at "Souvanna Phum Theatre." Apart from this, there are a few cinema halls in the city which display movies in Khmer language only.

Things to do in Phnom Penh

The major sights of Phnom Penh are situated close to river making it a very pleasant walking tour. Tourists mostly enjoy visiting the "Silver Pagoda" and the "Royal Place." The "National Museum" is maybe the most visited place that helps in gaining an understanding of the changes of fashion between the post- and pre- Angkorian art works.

"Wat Ounalom" known as the headquarters of Khmer Buddhist faith, had been destroyed during "Khmer Rouge". However, many efforts have been carried out to restore it. It is positioned on the hill and is the most popular place, since all citizens of Phnom Penh visit to pray.

Another place you should definitely visit in Phnom Penh is "Tuol Sleng Museum." , a former highschool, used as a Security Prison by the "Khmer Rouge" communist regime and now it is a testimony to their brutality.
