Moscow , the capital of Russia, is a major political, economic, cultural, scientific, financial and educational centre of Russia and the continent. It has the largest city in Europe, having a population of about 10,000,000.
Moscow is located on the Moskva River. Throughout the history the city it was the capital of several states, from the medieval Grand Duchy of Moscow to the Soviet Union. It has many reminders of its imperial and Soviet past, a lot of museums and many attractions. It is sometimes called: The Third Rome, The First Throne or Whitestone.
Sightseeing in Moscow
The most famous landmark in Moscow is the Kremlin, an ancient fortress that is today the residence of the Russian Presiden. It is also one of several World Heritage Sites in the city. Another must see destination is the Shukhov Tower in Moscow which under threat of demolition and at the top of UNESCO's Endangered Buildings list .
Another Unesco World Heritage Site is Red Square which is a city square which was meant to serve as Moscow's main market but it was used instead for various public ceremonies.
There are so many breath taking art museum hosting some of the world’s greatest artists such as the Tretyakov Gallery, The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow State Historical Museum Moscow is also the heart of ballet and film, featuring a lot of theaters, cinemas and concert-halls.
If you are an outdoor person, you will be happy to know that there are 96 parks and 18 gardens in Moscow, including 4 botanical gardens, which makes this city a green one. Most of this parks are protected natural environment.One of the most visited is the Central Park of Culture and Rest which has estrades, children's attractions, dancing, tennis courts and other sports facilities.
Another great thing about Moscow is its nightlife. Tverskaya Street is worldwide famous for being one of the best places in the world to party, but this area is very expensive, luxurious bars, restaurants. Is considered to be the playground for rich people and celebrities.
