Houston is the largest city in Texas with a population of 2.1 million.

It was founded in 1836 and incorporated as a city on June 5, 1837 and got its name from the President of the Republic of Texas, former General Sam Houston.

Houston's economy is leading in manufacturing, aeronautics,transportation and health care sectors. Apart from being an industrial city and a hub for international businesses, Houston is also a multicultural city with a large and growing international community.

Houston is often called  Space City because is home to NASA’s Lyndon Johnson Space Center.

 

Things to see and do in Houston 

Houston has numerous parks and green space such as Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark one of the largest skateparks in Texas, the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park, a popular tourist attraction.

There are many annual events Houston, the largest one is Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which is actually the largest one of its kind.  Other annual events are  Houston Greek Festival, the Houston International Festival and the Bayou City Art Festival, which is a very important art festival. Houston received the official nickname of "Space City" in 1967 because it is the location of NASA''s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center.

Some of the most famous touristc attractions are: Bayou Place, a large building with restaurants, bars, live music, the Houston Verizon Wireless Theater where vacationers can enjoy live concerts, stage plays and stand-up comedy, the Space Center, with moon rocks exhibits, a shuttle simulator,  the Galleria which is the largest shopping mall Texas, Old Market Square and the Downtown Aquarium.

Houston is also renowned for its restaurants. Tourists can choose from ethnic restaurants, classic Texas steakhouses and Gulf Coast seafood.

There are more places to see, more things to do than in any other city in the south.  With great golf courses, beautiful parks, luxurious spas, famous museums and numerous dining options, there is  something for everyone.
