Florence, the capital metropolis of ''Tuscany'', is best known for its remarkable art and architecture. The major center of medieval European business and economy, Florence is considered as birthplace of Italian Renaissance or in fact was popular as "Athens" in middle ages. It was established originally by ''Julius Caesar'' in 59 BC as settlement for veteran soldiers. It was developed in a surprising army style with main streets, decumanus and cardo intersecting at present ''Piazza della Repubblica''. Located at ''Via Cassia'', the major route between north and Rome, this settlement soon became a popular commercial center. The city was under the sovereignty of Medici family for a longer time and from the year 1865 to year 1870, it was capital of Italy. 

 

During the year of 1982, Florence Historical Center was awarded as ''World Heritage Site".  Till today, it continues to fascinate tens of thousands of vacationers every year.
