From the very beginning of the seventh century B.C, Dacca has been a city well known for its urbanized settlements. Before going into the hands of the Sena dynasty in the ninth century, Dacca was under the rule of Kamarupa, a Buddhist kingdom. It is said that the city got its name from the name of the goddess Dhakeshwari. Turkish and afghan also ruled the city after the end of Sena dynasty. It was in the year 1765 that the city came under the control of East India. When the partition of Bengal occurred in the year 1905, Dacca was made the capital of east Bengal. In the year 1975, Dacca witnessed the killings of Sheikh Mujib and the other 3 military rebellions.
