Cebu was initially known by the name Sugbo which was recognized by an interesting feature that the people here lived in stilt houses that were made of wood, nipa and bamboo.  It was in the year 1521 that the Spanish troops arrived at Cebu and got a very friendly welcome from the villagers. In 1556, Fray Andres de Undaneta arrived in Cebu and before his arrival the complete invasion of Cebu was delayed. One main thing for which Cebu has been known in the past is the Fort San Pedro which was constructed in the year 1565 when Legazpi arrived here.

Talking of the culture of Cebu it is a place which is known all over the world for its national festival called Holy Child.  Cebu appears to be the center of art and culture of the entire city due to the various festivals and cultural activities organized here.

Sightseeing In Cebu

Three main things that tourists can enjoy doing at Cebu are island hopping, shopping and sightseeing. The things that can provide tourists with a gastronomical experience include visiting landmarks, theaters and museums, sculptures and much more. The ones who want shop till they drop can have a nice experience at Colon Street which is one of the oldest streets in Philippines.

Passport and Visa requirements for US Citizens

U.S. citizens may enter the Philippines without a visa for tourism purposes upon presentation of their U.S. passport, valid for at least six months after the date of entry into the Philippines, and a return ticket to the United States or an onward ticket to another country.  Upon arrival, immigration authorities will annotate the traveler''s passport with an entry visa valid for 21 days.  If the traveler plans to stay longer than 21 days, he/she must apply for an extension at the Philippine Bureau of Immigration and Deportation''s main office at Magallanes Drive, Intramuros, Manila, Philippines or at any of its provincial offices
