Casablanca started to develop in the starting of 20th century since the 1920''s. The town of Casablanca was discovered by "Sultan Mohammed Ben Abdallah" in 1770 and was called as Dar el Beida in Arabic and as Casa Blanca in Spanish. It became a supplier and exporter of wool to the textile industry of Britain in 19th century. At present, Casablanca is the economic capital and most popular city of Morocco. It is also well known as center for bank transactions because more than half of all banks exist in this city. The present town of Casablanca is designed by French architect named Henry Prost.

 

The culture of Casablanca represents the urban culture and other non-religious festivals that are celebrated by the citizens. Its culture mainly consists of dance, music, theaters, mosques and many more. There are several attractive and colorful festivals celebrated throughout the year in Morocco. Some of the most popular festivals are Urban Culture on Stage, Jazzablanca Festival, Festival of Casablanca, International Video Arts Festival etc.

Travelers can visit the Quartier Maarif shopping center for shopping; it includes many general stores, bakery shops, household items, clothing shops, shoe shops and more. The shopping centre is mainly famous for Moroccan jewelry, clothing, and handmade carpets. Tourists can also visit some famous theaters such as Theatre Municipal, Theatre Du Soc, and Theatre Mogador. Tourists also can entertain themselves at famous dance theatre of Casablanca named as Ballet Theatre Zinoun. Moreover, travelers who like horse riding or golf can go to the Anfa Royal Golfclub located near to the airport.
