Athens is an ancient city boasting the photographic collection of architectural and archaeological ruins of ancient Greece or Athens. Athens was developed around a mount that became popular as Acropolis; it was around 200 ft above plains. Acropolis had cliff like, steep sides on 3 of its 4 sides, 4th was fortified easily and defended. According to myths, Athena who was a goddess of war and wisdom had a competition with Poseidon, god of seas for the ownership of the city. At the end, Athena won that competition and turned out the supporter goddess of Athens.

There is an abundance of sightseeing sites in Athens. You can start your tour from the famous ''temple of Olympian Zeus'' at Vasilissis, continue with south slopes of Acropolis situated near Plaka and then Hephaestus Temple''. Constitution Square or Syntagma Square is located in central part of Athens and is home to Royal Palace which now is popular as Greek parliament. Nearby, there is a Syntagma Square that accommodates historical Kallimarmaro Stadium, the site where 1st modern ''Olympic Games'' were held by the year 1896.

 

Some other sightseeing places in Athens are Church of Panagia Gorgoepikoos, Museums, Parnitha National Park, Attica Zoological Park, Allou Fun Park, Panathenaic stadium, Christian and Byzantine museum, Ancient Agora of Athens, Roman Agora of Athens, Benaki Museum, Olympieion, National archaeological museum and sanctuary of Athena and Poseidon at Sounion.

Passport and Visa requirements for US Citizens
