Amsterdam is known all over the world for its extremely long and event driven history. City basically originated in thirteenth century BC, when the fisherman inhabiting along the River Amstes''s banks built a waterway close to it. An important year in the history of Amsterdam is 1275 when the city came under the jurisdiction of Sticht Utrecht.  In the year 1345, the famous Miracle of Amsterdam happened and it was at this time when the city became a famous pilgrimage place.  17th century was the real golden age of Amsterdam as at this time city was able to make a contact with the other countries of the world for trade purposes. At present, the city is enjoying the status of both a pilgrimage town and a safe and ethnic place.

Amsterdam has a rich and varied culture that has always kept the city blossoming with various events and festivals.  Amsterdam is known for its music, theater, dance, cinema and various other cultural events taking place in the city all through the year.
